At Slippery Fish we are
constantly looking for new ways
to teach swimming. Our coaches are both Total
Immersion and ASA qualified.
We don't believe in teaching the traditional way which usually involves endless lengths of struggle. Slippery Fish will teach you to swim with the effortless power of fish by becoming one with the water. You'll feel the difference from your very first lap of intelligent engagement with the water. Swimming practice will no longer be a mindless chore but will become a stimulating experience; as we give you the knowledge to become your own best coach. Slippery Fish can teach anyone. Slippery Fish offer small group tuition either on a full workshop basis during a weekend or for those who cannot give up a full weekend - consecutive Saturdays or Sundays. If weekends are out altogether you might consider spreading the training over 5 weekday evenings. Or you may decide a One to One approach would suit you better. Of the 3 disciplines that make up Triathlon, swimming is unique. If you work hard and put in the mileage at running and cycling you will get better. Perhaps not as much or as quickly as you'd like, but you will get better. With swimming on the other hand you could spend countless hours in the pool and still have nothing to show for your efforts. In fact it is a widely held assumption, even amongst competitive swimmers, that the harder you work and the more force you can apply, the faster you will go. Unfortunately this is not entirely true. The elimination of drag is just as, if not more important, than the creation of force. When you double your speed you quadruple your drag. Therefore, given our limited ability to create energy, it is better to maximise the energy that we do have by getting every drop of speed out of each and ever heartbeat. To do this requires us to use creative body positioning to improve balance; subsequently eliminating, as much as possible, the ever increasing resistance of the water, as you increase your speed.
